NURS 4284 Nursing Care of Children
This course focuses on the care of infants, children, and adolescents within the context of the family, emphasizing the integration of clinical judgment, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care. Students examine concepts related to growth and development, family dynamics, health promotion, and disease prevention in pediatric populations.
Emphasis is placed on the application of clinical reasoning to assess developmental stages, interpret physiological and behavioral data, and identify risk factors affecting child health. Students learn to prioritize nursing care for commonly occurring and complex pediatric conditions within the context of health promotion, acute and chronic illness management, and family-centered care.
Students also develop skills in providing anticipatory guidance and education to support optimal growth and development, promote health maintenance, and assist families in preparing for expected developmental changes and health needs.
The course supports the development of therapeutic communication, cultural sensitivity, and advocacy in caring for children and their families across various healthcare settings.
