NURS 4280 Maternal-Newborn Nursing
This course focuses on the care of women and newborns during the prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal periods, emphasizing the integration of clinical judgment, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care. Students examine physiological and psychosocial changes associated with pregnancy, birth, and neonatal transition.
Emphasis is placed on concepts such as reproduction, development, family dynamics, and adaptation, with application to common and high-risk conditions. Students apply clinical reasoning to analyze maternal and fetal data, identify risk factors, and prioritize nursing interventions within the context of health promotion, disease prevention, and management of complications.
The course supports the development of therapeutic communication, cultural sensitivity, and professional accountability in caring for childbearing families across various healthcare settings.
