NURS 4281 Maternal-Newborn Nursing Clinical
This clinical course provides opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge in the care of women, newborns, and families during the prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal periods. Students use clinical judgment and reasoning to perform assessments, interpret maternal and fetal data, and implement nursing interventions in a variety of healthcare settings.
Emphasis is placed on safe, patient-centered care, health promotion, and risk reduction for both mother and newborn. Students recognize changes in maternal and neonatal status, support normal processes, and respond to complications using evidence-based practices.
Students demonstrate therapeutic communication, collaboration, and professional behaviors while working with families and the interprofessional healthcare team. The course fosters the development of clinical judgment, advocacy, and accountability in supporting positive outcomes for childbearing families.
