NURS 3361 Foundations of Nursing Practice Clinical

This clinical course provides experiential learning opportunities for students to apply foundational nursing concepts in direct patient care settings. Under faculty supervision, students translate theoretical knowledge into practice while developing competencies in clinical judgment, patient-centered care, safety, communication, and professionalism.

Students provide basic nursing care across the continuum of health, including individuals experiencing acute, chronic, and palliative care needs. Emphasis is placed on supporting comfort, dignity, and quality of life, while recognizing the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients and families.

Students perform focused assessments, implement basic nursing interventions, and apply principles of therapeutic communication, safety, and infection control. Learners begin to demonstrate compassionate, culturally sensitive, and ethically grounded care, including care for individuals experiencing serious illness and end-of-life transitions.

The course fosters the development of clinical judgment, accountability, and professional behaviors, supporting the transition from novice learner toward competent nursing practice.
