NURS 3151 Health Assessment Clinical: Geriatric Focus

This clinical course provides experiential learning opportunities for students to apply health assessment knowledge in the care of older adult populations within long-term care settings. Students perform focused and comprehensive assessments of older adults, apply clinical judgment to interpret findings, identify functional and cognitive changes, and recognize risks impacting health and safety. Emphasis is placed on health promotion, recognizing cues in the assessment of geriatric adults with chronic disease and quality of life in the geriatric population.

Students demonstrate therapeutic communication, collaboration, and professional behaviors while interacting with residents, families, and the interprofessional team. The course supports the development of clinical judgment, accountability, and reflective practice through direct patient care and guided clinical experiences.
