NURS 3240 Mental Health Nursing
This course focuses on the care of clients experiencing mental health conditions across the lifespan, emphasizing the integration of clinical judgment, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care. Students examine concepts related to cognition, mood, behavior, coping, and stress response, and their impact on mental health and well-being.
Emphasis is placed on the application of therapeutic communication, risk assessment, and clinical reasoning to support individuals experiencing acute and chronic psychiatric conditions. Students learn to analyze behavioral and psychosocial data, identify risk factors, and prioritize nursing interventions within the context of health promotion, crisis intervention, and recovery-oriented care.
The course addresses ethical, legal, and cultural considerations, as well as the role of the nurse in promoting safety, advocacy, and collaboration within the interprofessional team.
