NURS 4283 Nursing Care of Children Clinical
This clinical course provides opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge in the care of infants, children, and adolescents in a variety of healthcare settings. Students use clinical judgment and reasoning to perform age-appropriate assessments, interpret clinical data, and implement nursing interventions for pediatric clients.
Emphasis is placed on safe, family-centered care, health promotion, and risk reduction. Students recognize changes in condition, support normal growth and development, and respond to acute and chronic health needs using evidence-based practices.
Students provide anticipatory guidance and education to children and their families, promoting health maintenance, supporting developmental milestones, and preparing caregivers for expected changes and care needs.
Students demonstrate therapeutic communication, collaboration, and professional behaviors while working with children, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team. The course fosters the development of clinical judgment, advocacy, and accountability in promoting optimal health outcomes for pediatric populations.
