NURS 3141 Mental Health Nursing Clinical
This clinical course provides opportunities for students to apply mental health nursing principles in the care of clients experiencing psychiatric and psychosocial conditions in a variety of settings. Students use clinical judgment and therapeutic communication to perform assessments, establish therapeutic relationships, and support patient-centered care.
Emphasis is placed on safety, risk reduction, and management of behaviors associated with mental health conditions. Students apply clinical reasoning to identify changes in mental status, recognize risk for harm to self or others, and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
Students demonstrate professional behaviors, empathy, and cultural humility while collaborating with clients, families, and the interprofessional team. The course supports the development of self-awareness, reflective practice, and clinical judgment in the delivery of safe, compassionate mental health care.
