SOWK 6353 Assessment and Intervention

In this course students will learn the theory, skills and practice of assessment and intervention. Students will be introduced to the DSM VR and its clinical uses in practice. Differential diagnosis and assessment will include critical examination of systemic racism and oppression on micro level problems. Psychopathology to explain the symptoms of oppression, racism and discrimination will be examined and students will be introduced to psychosocial assessment using anti-racist and culturally responsive practices. Interventions and modalities of social work practice will be aligned to the assessment process recognizing the needs of groups and populations who have historically and contemporarily face racism, discrimination and marginalization.
