SOWK 6313 Rural Social Work Practice
Social work practice occurs in various spaces and in this course, students examine rural contexts, social norms, social welfare problems, social welfare programing and rural social work practice. Rurality as a cultural construct will be introduced as a way to assess, intervene and best serve people living or from rural contexts. Evidence based social work practice methods will be critically examined for their applicability to rural contexts. Students will learn skills, theory and assessment applicable to people who identify with rurality.
