Grants
Grants are a form of gift aid funded by federal, state, or institutional sources and do not require repayment. Most grants are awarded based on financial need, as determined by the information submitted through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).

Federal and State Grant Programs
Falcon Free
To be eligible for Falcon Free you must meet the below requirements:
- Be admitted to UTPB
- Complete the FAFSA/TASFA
- Be a Texas Resident
- Be a degree seeking student that has not completed their Undergraduate Degree
- Have a family Adjusted Gross Income less than $100,000
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is the largest federal need-based aid program and serves as the foundation for most financial aid packages. Key features include:
- Awarded to undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree
- Based solely on financial need
- Requires completion of the FAFSA
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The FSEOG provides additional assistance to students with exceptional financial need. Key points:
- Priority is given to Pell Grant recipients
- Available only to undergraduate students
- Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis
TEXAS Grant
The Toward EXcellence, Access, and Success (TEXAS) Grant helps eligible students cover tuition and fees. To qualify, students must:
- Demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA or TASFA.
- Have completed the Recommended or Distinguished high school curriculum
- Meet the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) priority model
- Submit their application by the state priority deadline
Texas Transfer Grant
The Texas Transfer Grant provides financial assistance to eligible students to help cover tuition and mandatory fees when transferring from a two-year institution to a baccalaureate program at UTPB. To qualify for this grant, students must:
- Be a Texas resident.
- Be registered with Selective Service or be exempt.
- Have applied for all available financial aid assistance.
- Demonstrate financial need for the semester in which the grant is offered.
- Be enrolled full-time during the semester the grant is awarded.
- Be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at an eligible institution no later than 12 months after earning an associate degree.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements as determined by UTPB’s Financial Aid Office.

Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)
The Texas Public Educational Grant Program (TPEG) is a state-funded financial aid program designed to help students with financial need pay for college costs at Texas public institutions. To be eligible, students must:
- Demonstrate financial need (based on FAFSA or TASFA).
- Enrolled at the institution, this grant is available to Texas residents, non-residents, and in some cases international students.

UTPB Grant
The UTPB Grant is a need-based institutional award funded by the university. It is designed to assist eligible undergraduate and graduate students in meeting educational expenses not fully covered by other financial aid. To be eligible, students must:
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or TASFA.
- Enrollment in at least half-time status (priority given to full-time students).
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) according to university policy.
- Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until allocations are exhausted.

Federal Work-Study Program (FWS)
The Federal Work-Study Program at UTPB provides part-time employment opportunities for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses while gaining valuable work experience.
Employment Opportunities
Positions are available on campus and with approved off-campus community service partners. Work hours are arranged around class schedules. Students earn at least the federal minimum wage; wages are paid directly to the student.
Eligibility
- Must demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA.
- Must be enrolled at least half-time and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
How to Apply
- Indicate interest in Federal Work-Study when completing the FAFSA.
- Complete UTPB employment paperwork and apply for available positions through the university’s job portal.

Other Student Employment Opportunities
On-Campus Regular Student Employment
In addition to work-study, Regular Student Employment opportunities may be available through individual University departments. These positions:
- Are not based on financial need
- Are part-time and flexible around class schedules
- Require students to apply through the Office of Career Services
- Are limited to 19 hours per week
Off-Campus Employment
Students may also explore off-campus job opportunities through listings provided by the Career Services Office. These positions are not affiliated with the University but are made available to help students connect with local employers.
