An academic status assigned to a student at UTPB whose cumulative grade point average falls below the minimum required standard or who is placed on probation as a condition of admission. Students on probation must meet specified academic performance requirements within a defined period to remain enrolled. |
| Attempted Hours |
Every credit hour a student is registered for on or after the census date, including repeated, failed, withdrawn, incomplete, transfer-applied, or otherwise non‑completed courses. |
| Census Date |
The official point in the semester when a student’s enrollment becomes final. It is listed in the Academic Calendar as the “Last Day to Drop Without Creating a Record,” and any class the student remains enrolled in after this date will appear on the transcript and count toward attempted hours.

| Conditional Status |
An academic standing for students with identified academic deficiencies who must meet defined performance requirements within a set timeframe to continue enrollment or move to regular standing. |
| Credit Hours |
The amount of instructional time assigned to a course. A single credit hour corresponds to one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction per week, where one hour is defined as 50 minutes of instructional time. a standard 3‑credit course includes approximately 150 minutes of in‑class instruction per week (3 × 50 minutes).

| Dean's Honor Roll |
Full‑time undergraduate students who earn a high semester GPA (typically 3.5 or higher) while completing the required minimum credit hours during a fall or spring term.

| Dual Credit |
College‑level coursework that allows eligible high school students to earn both high school and UTPB academic credit simultaneously upon successful completion of the course. |
| Freshman |
A student who is entering the UTPB for the first time and has completed fewer than 24 transferable college credit hours after high school graduation. |
| Full-Time Graduate |
A graduate student enrolled in 9 or more semester credit hours during a fall or spring term. |
| Full-Time Undergraduate |
An undergraduate student enrolled in 12 or more semester credit hours during a fall or spring term. |
| Graduation |
The formal completion of all academic degree requirements at UTPB, as certified by the University, which results in the conferral of an academic degree. |
| Graduate Student |
A student admitted to and enrolled in a master’s degree program at UTPB who has earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. |
| Half-Time Graduate |
A graduate student enrolled in at least 5 but fewer than 9 semester credit hours during a fall or spring term. |
| Half-Time Undergraduate |
An undergraduate student enrolled in at least 6 but fewer than 12 semester credit hours during a fall or spring term. |
| Junior |
An undergraduate student at UTPB who has completed 60 to 89 semester credit hours. |

| International Student |
A student at UTPB who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and who is enrolled at the University under a non‑immigrant visa status (such as F‑1 or J‑1). |
| Less Than Half-Time Graduate |
A graduate student enrolled in fewer than 5 semester credit hours during a fall, spring, or summer term. Enrollment at this level may affect the student’s eligibility for financial aid. |
| Less Than Half-Time Undergraduate |
An undergraduate student enrolled in fewer than 6 semester credit hours during a fall, spring, or summer term. Enrollment at this level may affect the student’s eligibility for financial aid. |
| Maximum Credit Hours |
The maximum number of semester credit hours a student is permitted to enroll in during a single academic term at The UTPB, typically 18 credit hours for undergraduates, unless additional approval is granted. |
| Military Student |
A student at UTPB who is currently serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces, including members of the National Guard or Reserves, and who may be eligible for military education benefits. |
| Non-Degree Seeking Student |
An individual enrolled at UTPB who is not pursuing a certificate or degree program but is permitted to take courses for personal enrichment, professional development, or transfer credit, subject to institutional policies. |
| Prerequisites |
Specific courses, credit hours, or academic requirements that a student must successfully complete before enrolling in a particular course or academic program at UTPB.

Full‑time undergraduate students who earn a high semester GPA of 4.00 while completing the required minimum credit hours during a fall or spring term. |
| Provisional Status |

| Summer Session |
The academic term offered between the spring and fall semesters at UTPB, during which courses are delivered in shorter, accelerated formats as defined by the University’s academic calendar. |
| Transfer Student |
A student who has previously earned college‑level credit from another accredited institution after high school graduation and who enrolls at UTPB to continue their coursework or pursue a degree. |
| Upper-Level Courses |
Advanced classes numbered 3000–4000, taken primarily in the junior and senior years. They provide specialized, in‑depth instruction within a major, typically require completion of lower‑level (1000–2000) prerequisites, and count toward the upper‑division credit hours required for a bachelor’s degree. The terms "junior- and senior-level courses" and "upper-level courses" are used interchangeably throughout this document. Both terms refer to advanced undergraduate coursework typically completed during the junior and senior years of a degree program. |
