Student Life at UT Permian Basin (UTPB) offers a vibrant and inclusive environment that supports students' personal growth, leadership development, and community engagement. Through the Office of Student Life, students have access to a wide range of programs and services including student organizations, campus recreation, e-sports, spirit programs, and the Campus Activities Board. The Student Activity Center serves as the central hub for student interaction, hosting events and providing space for relaxation, study, and social connection. UTPB also fosters tradition and school spirit through events like Homecoming, Family Weekend, and student-led initiatives. Campus Activity Board
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) at UT Permian Basin is a student-led programming organization dedicated to enhancing campus life through engaging, inclusive, and entertaining events. CAB’s mission is to bring a wide variety of recreational, cultural, and social experiences to the student body, including concerts, comedians, lecturers, magicians, movie nights, and seasonal celebrations. Past events have featured glow-light paint parties, roller skating nights, laser tag on the Quad, and food truck block parties during Welcome Week. CAB also sponsors leadership development opportunities, taking students to regional and national conferences. By involving students directly in the planning and execution of events, CAB fosters leadership, creativity, and collaboration. Membership is open to all students, and those who join gain valuable experience in event coordination, budgeting, and campus engagement. Located in the Student Activity Center, CAB serves as a central force in building community and creating memorable experiences that enrich the student journey at UTPB.
Campus Recreation
Campus Recreation at UTPB offers students a wide variety of opportunities to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy a balanced college experience. The university’s recreation facilities include a three-story gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, racquetball courts, a weight room, and an aerobic/dance studio. Students also have access to four lighted tennis courts, a soccer field, and nearly five miles of walking, jogging, and skating trails that showcase the natural beauty of the campus. One of the standout features is UTPB’s Olympic-size outdoor heated swimming pool, the largest in Odessa, open from mid-March through mid-October and staffed by certified lifeguards. Campus Recreation also hosts intramural sports, offering everything from traditional team sports to unique activities like ping-pong, poker, and water polo. These programs are designed to promote wellness, teamwork, and fun, helping students build friendships and relieve stress. Whether you're looking to compete, exercise, or simply unwind, Campus Recreation at UTPB provides the space and support to make it happen.
E-Sports
The UTPB Esports Program is a dynamic and fast-growing student organization dedicated to competitive and community gaming. Sponsored by the university, the program provides students with opportunities to compete at the collegiate level in popular titles such as Call of Duty, Valorant, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six Siege, and more. With over 130 active members, UTPB Esports is part of the NACE Playfly Esports league, representing the university in national tournaments and matches against other colleges. Beyond competition, the program fosters a vibrant gaming culture through weekly tournaments, community events, and professional development opportunities. Students can participate as players, content creators, event organizers, or support staff, gaining valuable experience in teamwork, strategy, and digital media. UTPB Esports is committed to expanding the esports scene in West Texas and creating an inclusive space where passion for gaming meets leadership and innovation.
Spirit Programs
The Spirit Programs at UT Permian Basin play a vital role in fostering Falcon pride, enhancing campus culture, and energizing the student experience. These programs include the Cheer Team, Pom Squad, and Mascot Team, all of which serve as spirited ambassadors at athletic events, campus celebrations, and community functions. Spirit team members are selected through a competitive process and commit to rigorous training, performance schedules, and leadership development. They represent UTPB with enthusiasm and professionalism, promoting school spirit and unity among students, faculty, and alumni. The Spirit Programs also collaborate with other student organizations and departments to support major campus events such as Homecoming, Family Weekend, and pep rallies.
