Competencies
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Art program, graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate Studio Art Proficiency
Create a cohesive body of studio artwork that reflects appropriate research, technical skill, and an understanding of materials, processes, and techniques used in the production of studio art.
- Apply Foundations of Visual Art
Apply the elements and principles of art effectively in the conceptualization and execution of studio work.
- Demonstrate Artistic and Professional Presentation
Prepare and present original artwork for professional venues, including participation in at least one external juried exhibition not affiliated with the university.
- Analyze and Interpret Works of Art
Identify, discuss, analyze, and compare major works of art from a variety of historical periods and cultural contexts using appropriate art historical terminology and critical frameworks.
- Demonstrate Knowledge of Art History
Apply knowledge of past and contemporary art movements, artists, and stylistic developments in written and analytical formats consistent with disciplinary standards.
- Communicate Effectively in Written Form
Produce clear, well-organized written materials related to artistic practice, including artist statements that demonstrate critical reflection, professional presentation, and effective writing skills.
- Demonstrate Professional Readiness in the Arts
Exhibit readiness for professional practice or further study in the arts through portfolio development, public or juried presentation of work, and adherence to professional standards.
Degree Requirements
- It is the student's responsibility to read the catalog and be familiar with and fulfill all the requirements for the BA degree.
- Complete at least 120 sch for the BA degree. At least 48 sch must be completed at the junior/senior level, and 24 of the last 30 must be taken at U.T.P.B.
- At least 30 sch must be taken at UTPB.
- This degree requires a minor. Please refer to the catalog for specific requirements.
- Obtain at least a C grade in all major courses. Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or C average in all courses applicable toward the BA degree.

Bachelor of Arts in Art with a Minor
The total semester credit hours required for a Bachelor of Arts – 4 years: Art (Art) is 120 sch. This option is designed for those students seeking a liberal arts degree with Art as a major. It is a 42 sch major (minimum of 24 sch at UT Permian Basin) with a minor (see catalog for minor choices and minor requirements) and gives students a broad based education in the visual arts.
All Art majors are required to meet the visual arts core prior to taking upper-level courses. Students transferring to UT Permian Basin must also meet these requirements before taking junior and senior level Art courses.

Exhibition Entry
Students pursuing the BA in Art are required to enter one art competition (local, area, state, national, or international) prior to graduation.
