Academic Fresh Start

Texas residents may apply for admission to UT Permian Basin under the Academic Fresh Start statute (Texas Education Code, Sec.51.931). This program allows applicants to exclude from consideration any academic course credits or grades earned 10 or more years prior to the semester in which they seek enrollment. These credits will not be used for admission decisions, nor will they be counted toward degree requirements.

Applicants must notify the Office of Admissions in writing at the time of application of their intent to apply under Academic Fresh Start and are encouraged to consult with an admissions representative to fully understand the implications of this decision.

Students admitted under this statute will not receive credit for any coursework completed 10 or more years prior to enrollment. All other standard admission criteria remain applicable.

If a student who enrolls under Academic Fresh Start completes a degree and later applies to a graduate or professional program at a Texas public institution, only the GPA earned after enrollment under this plan will be considered for admission, along with other standard evaluation criteria.
