Academic Petition

An academic petition is use:to gain approval for an exception to any scholastic regulation or to document an official interpretation of an academic regulation.  Forms for petitions are available at department and college offices. The student's advisor's signature and other faculty signatures, as appropriate, are required before the dean of the student's major will approve or not approve a petition. Petitions regarding teacher certification requirements require the signature of the Dean of Education in addition to the signature of the Dean of the student's major. The Dean's decision is the final step in the petition process and cannot be challenged.
