SOWK 3340 Human Behavior in the Social Environment

This course examines the dynamics of human behavior and the significance of the intersections between people and their environments. Students will learn and apply a variety of social work theories to the exploration of the inner lives and psychological functioning of children and adults and to the complex interactions between person and context. Theories will include the Person-in-Environment (PIE) perspective, the strengths perspective, systems theory, and the ecological perspective, among others. Underlying the course will be an examination of the interrelationships among social institutions, social structure and social processes.
