SOWK 6353 Psychopathology and Diagnosis for Social Work Practice

In this course students will learn theory, skills and practice of diagnostic assessment using the DSM V TR. Students will become skilled in formulating a DSM V TR diagnosis with cultural sensitivity, adherence to ethics and the minimizing of stigma. Students will understand the risks and benefits of diagnosis and the implications for treatment. Content will include developing the knowledge and skill to work collaboratively with medical professionals and develop a basic understanding of various inpatient and outpatient medical interventions and psychopharmacology.
