Department of Teaching and Learning

The Department of Teaching and Learning at UTPB is dedicated to preparing educators who are knowledgeable, reflective, and responsive to the diverse needs of learners from birth through adolescence. The department offers a comprehensive suite of undergraduate and graduate programs designed to equip future teachers and educational specialists with the skills and experience necessary to thrive in today’s classrooms and beyond. 

Graduate Programs

  • Master of Arts in Education with specializations in:
    • Reading Specialist: Prepares educators to support literacy development and reading instruction.
    • Educational Diagnostician: Trains professionals to assess and support students with learning differences.
  • Graduate Certificates: Available in areas such as ESL and Special Education for educators seeking additional credentials.

Field-Based Learning

All programs integrate progressive field experiences, including:

  • Teacher Residency Program: A paid, two-semester placement in local school districts (e.g., Ector County ISD, Midland ISD), where students work alongside mentor teachers and receive university supervision.

Flexible Learning Options

Many programs are offered fully online or in hybrid formats, making them accessible to both traditional students and working professionals.
