ECON 4336 History and Philosophy of Economic Thought

This course presents the various philosophical approaches within economics against their historical development. Classical economic doctrines of Smith and Marx are discussed, followed by the modern history of economic thought in the Keynesian, Schumpeterian, and Chicago Schools. The mathematical and microeconomic historical development of Paul Samuelson and Gary Becker are emphasized. Attention is also given to the history of econometrics.
