GIS and Geospatial Certificate (Online)

The Online GIS (Geosciences Information Systems) and Geospatial Certificate offered by the Department of Geoscience is designed for students to gain the skills and expertise in the field of GIS and geospatial technologies. To complete this GIS and Geospatial Certificate, the student must take the following four required courses in the Geoscience program.

Admission Requirements

Our online GIS and Geospatial Certificate is designed for students who have earned an undergraduate degree in science, engineering, or another field (with professor approval) and who have been accepted into the program.

Regular Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in last 60 credits of undergraduate work
  • Official transcripts

Conditional Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • GPA of 2.50-2.99 in last 60 credits of undergraduate work 
  • Official transcripts

Students in the MS Geology program (thesis or non-thesis option) may elect to pursue the GIS and Geospatial Certificate as a Stackable Graduate Certificate (SGC). Students electing to pursue the SGC must note it on their MS Degree Plan and file their intent with the Graduate Studies office.

 

GIS and Geospatial Certificate, MS

GIS (Geosciences Information System) and Geospatial Certificate of MS in Geoscience is designed for educating students to gain the skills and expertise in the field of GIS and geospatial technology. The GIS and geospatial certificate can be completed online. To complete this GIS and geospatial certificate, the student must take the following four required courses in the Geoscience program.

  • A student may withdraw from the program at any time by informing the graduate program head, Office of Graduate Studies, and Registrar in writing.
  • AMP students who earn less than a B in a graduate course will be put on probation for one semester. If they earn less than a B for a second time, they will be dismissed from the program.
